For when you don't know

When you don't know
which dance,
start here.

Most students don't walk in knowing whether they want Salsa or Foxtrot. We start with the four or five that get you danceable at almost any social — and you pick the one that grabs you.

How this works

Pick one. Or let us pick for you.

Most students who walk in for an intro lesson aren't sure which dance to start with. That's normal. We use the first ten minutes to talk about the music you actually listen to, the events you go to, and what you want to be able to do at a party three months from now. By the end of the lesson, you'll have a clear first pick. These four are where almost everyone lands.

  • No. 01

    Salsa

The default Latin dance. Most Latin nights play more Salsa than anything else. Once you've got a basic step and a cross-body lead, you can show up to a Friday social and dance with strangers for two hours.

If you want the busiest social scene in South Florida.

  • No. 02

    Bachata

Slow, close, and on every Latin night's playlist. Easier than Salsa to start with because the timing is gentler. Couples often learn it first because it doesn't require a turn pattern to feel like a dance.

If you like ballads and close-hold dancing.

  • No. 03

    Swing

East Coast Swing covers most upbeat jazz, big band, and a surprising amount of pop. The basic step is forgiving, and Swing nights in South Florida tend to be friendly to beginners.

If your music taste leans Frank Sinatra to Bruno Mars.

  • No. 04

    Foxtrot

Almost any slow song over 4/4 time fits Foxtrot. It's the ballroom dance that covers the most weddings, anniversaries, and quiet evenings. Doesn't show up at clubs, but shows up everywhere else.

If you want to dance at events more than at clubs.

Why private lessons

Four reasons private works for beginners

  • 01

    Private, judgment-free space.

Just you, your instructor, and the music — for forty-five quiet minutes. No pressure, no comparisons, no spotlight.

  • 02

    Built around you.

Your song, your pace, your body. We don’t teach the same eight steps to everyone — we teach the ones that suit how you actually move.

  • 03

    Patience as a method.

No drilling, no shame, no rushed routines. Repetition until it feels right, then a small new thing — that’s the whole pedagogy.

  • 04

    Out on the floor sooner.

Most students take their first dance out — a wedding, a cruise, a Thursday social — within four to six weeks, maybe more. Real social dancing, not memorised steps.

  • I came here for an introductory dance lesson at The Dance Circle. My contact was Bianca. She was very helpful, knowledgeable, and reminded me of my appointment. Given that I was doing ballroom dancing, I was paired with her husband, Dan.

Honest answers

What people ask us
before they come in.

Do I need a partner?
No. Most students come on their own. Lessons are private — just you and your instructor, who leads or follows as needed. Couples are welcome to come together; we’ll teach you to dance with each other, not next to each other.
I haven’t danced in thirty years (or ever). Is that a problem?
Not at all. Roughly two-thirds of our students start as complete beginners over the age of forty-five. We teach in small, comfortable steps — no jumping, no spinning until you’re ready.
What should I wear?
Anything you can move comfortably in. Soft-soled shoes are ideal — leather-bottom dress shoes or sneakers without heavy tread. We have rentable practice shoes if you want to try a heel.
How long until I can dance socially?
Most students feel comfortable taking their first dance out — at a wedding, a cruise, a Friday social — within four to six lessons. That’s the honest answer; anyone who promises faster is selling something.
Can we focus on just one dance, like our wedding song?
Yes. Wedding couples often book a focused four-to-eight-lesson package built entirely around their first-dance choreography. We can also work in your shoes and dress to rehearse the actual room.
What happens at the intro lesson?
Forty-five minutes. We chat for a few minutes about what brought you in, then we put on music and try a few basic steps in a style you’re drawn to. No pressure to commit afterwards.
